When a homeowner wants to add a gazebo to their backyard, the foundation underneath it has to be done right. That means more than just pouring a slab - it means planning the footings, setting the column locations, and making sure everything lines up flush with the existing patio. That's exactly what this job called for.
Here's what we were working with: a backyard with an existing covered patio and a brand-new white gazebo structure that needed a solid concrete base to sit on. The new slab had to match the height of the existing patio so the transition between the two spaces would be seamless. No steps up, no awkward lip - just a clean, level connection.
We started by framing out the slab area and digging the footing locations for each gazebo column. The footings go deep, and they're formed with wood boxes set at the corners so the columns have a proper base to anchor into. Getting those placements dialed in before any concrete goes down is what keeps everything aligned once the gazebo is standing.
Once the prep was done, we poured the slab and worked it smooth. The control joints were cut in clean, and the column footings were finished right along with the rest of the pour. The finished surface came out flat and level - exactly what you need when a structure is going on top of it.
The end result is a concrete patio that does double duty. It extends the usable outdoor space and gives the gazebo a proper, stable foundation that's built to hold up long-term. When the prep is done right, the finish takes care of itself - and that's the way we like to work.
